Referee Training Class
North Shore REGION 289 AYSO No Referee Training is scheduled at this time, check back sometime soon or you can subscribe to our email announcements. Sign Up! by e-mail to boydready@hawaii.rr.com, or call 638-8462. Fill out your volunteer form on-line @ eayso.com, print and bring with you, or come 30 min. early to fill it out. Please note that every "Home Team" on the game schedule must provide 3 qualified non-coach Referees. Either 1 of the 2 sessions offered will qualify you as "Basic Referee," or "Assistant Referee" (line judge). Parents, other volunteers, coaches, and upper level youth players are invited. Trained youth players can officiate at games @ age levels 2 years younger, and benefit in character development. Coaches who know the Laws serve their teams better. All who complete the course will be qualified Basic Referees, but whether you serve as center referee or as "line judge" (assistant referee) is your option. Coaches cannot be counted as part of your team's referee complement of 3 qualified refs. You will practice with flags, observe on-field demonstrations, and take a written test. You will learn the "offside" rule, "fouls" and "misconduct" rules, and how to control the game. You will learn effective controls for game interference incidents. Lunch will be served near the end of the class, so please RSVP. Sign Up! by e-mail to boydready@hawaii.rr.com, or call 638-8462. Fill out your volunteer form on-line @ eayso.com, print and bring with you, or come 30 min. early to fill it out. PLEASE BE ON TIME – THE KIDS ARE COUNTING ON YOU! About Boyd Ready
No previous soccer experience is required. Attendees who successfully complete the class will be certified AYSO Referees at the basic level, qualified to officiate at any age level. Attendees, who wish only to "line judge", will be qualified as Assistant Referees and will not be required to serve as center referees. All attendees are urged to fill out the "Volunteer Form" and complete "Safe Haven" training on line. These two preparatory steps are necessary to serve as an AYSO volunteer in any capacity, and if done on-line will leave more time for the actual class work. Coaches are urged to attend: coaches who are well versed in the "Laws" find their teams and players success is enhanced. There are several strategies, especially at the U-12 level, that depend on good understanding of the "Laws" for their success. Coaches who do not know the "Laws" can inadvertently do their players a disservice by inappropriate instruction during practice and games. In any event, every team is tasked with providing a center referee and two assistant referees on Saturdays during the season, so have your team recruit three referee candidates and send them to the training! It's free! It's fun! Don't make your coach do double service as de facto team referee - have some other parents pick up the duty. It's not hard, and no one will be assigned referee duties at a level higher than they feel they can handle (no U12 or U14 center referee service for the insufficiently experienced!). Do consider recruiting U14 or U16 players as referees for the U8 and U10 levels, they do an excellent job and get good leadership training by doing so. Boyd Ready | c. 808-306-9307 | h. 808-638-8462
