| AYSO REGION 289 SPORTSMANSHIP GUIDELINES – 2005COOPERATION OF PLAYERS 3 (Excellent) - Much positive encouragement of teammates; displays good sportsmanship behaviors; helps opponent up; doesn’t delay game; clean competition, plays fairly; good, hard effort and teamwork; doesn’t blame teammates; abides by rules and determination of the referees; accepts winning and losing graciously; handshake at end of game; thanks referee; respects opponents and game of soccer. 2(Normal) - No positive encouragement, but nothing negative; not many displays of good sportsmanship behaviors but no dissent; generally plays fairly; adequate teamwork and effort inconsistent; in general abides by the rules and determination of the referees; accepts winning and losing; handshake at end of game; thanks referee; concern about conduct and attitudes. 1 (Poor) - Negative comments are noticeable; few displays of good sportsmanship behaviors with much dissent; often fouls; lack of teamwork and effort inconsistent; much questioning of referee’s call; very slow to comply; has much difficulty winning and losing with grace; many concerns about conduct and attitudes. 0 (Unacceptable) - Many negative comments, verbal harassment of opponents, foul or abusive language; no display of good sportsmanship behaviors; intimidation and taunting of opponent; fair play lacking; no teamwork and poor effort; questions referee’s calls; resistant; ungracious about winning and losing; grudge/anger after game; serious concern about conduct and attitudes. COOPERATION OF COACHES3(Excellent) - Many positive comments; displays good sportsmanship behaviors; sets the standard of fair play; supports players by corrections and instruction; abides by rules and determination of referee; helps to relieve pressures of competition; gracious winner or loser; handshake at end of game; thanks referee; offer drinks at halftime; respects opponents and game of soccer. 2(Normal) - Few positive comments; not many displays of good sportsmanship behaviors but no dissent; rarely supports players by corrections and instruction about fair play but doesn’t encourage unfair play; abides by the rules and determination of the referee some of the time; doesn’t encourage gracious winning or losing; is silent for the most part; doesn’t set example; some concerns about conduct and attitudes. 1 (Poor) - More negative than positive; few displays of good sportsmanship behaviors with much dissent; doesn’t support players by corrections and instruction about fair play and sometimes condones or encourages unfair play; frequent questioning of the referee’s judgments and decisions; questions referee’s honesty; ungracious winner or loser; winning is most important; shows anger at player’s mistakes or at losing the game; many concerns about conduct and attitudes. 0 (Unacceptable) - Many negative comments; no display of good sportsmanship behaviors; negative, uncooperative attitude; much questioning of the referee’s judgments and decisions; questions referee’s honesty; poor winner or loser; winning is everything; serious concern about conduct and attitude; sets poor example for players. COOPERATION OF TEAM SUPPORTERS 3 (Excellent) - Much positive cheering; encourages good sportsmanship, fair play, good effort and teamwork; applaud good play by either team; respects officials judgment and never questions their honesty; gracious winner or loser. 2 (Normal) - Some positive cheering but some negative; neither encourages nor discourages; respects officials judgment most of the time; few dissenting comments; doesn’t encourage gracious winning or losing. 1 (Poor) - More negative than positive; does not encourage sportsmanship, fair play, good effort and teamwork; many discouraging behaviors; frequent questioning of referees calls; questions honesty; ungracious winner or loser. 0 (Unacceptable) - Mainly negative; condones unsporting behavior, and unfair play; persistent criticism of referees calls; questions honesty; poor winner or loser. OVERALL GAME CONDUCT 3 (Excellent) - Team, coaches, and parents contributed to an AYSO Good Game. It was well played; good effort and positive attitudes evident. Safety and fairness describe the game. Respect for all participants was evident. 2 (Normal) - Somewhat fun. 1 (Poor) - Not fun. 0 (Unacceptable) - No fun at all; display of good sportsmanship behavior non-existent. UNIFORM APPEARANCE3 (Excellent) - All uniforms conform to AYSO Regulations. 2 (Normal) - Some deviations from AYSO Regulations; more than two players shirts untucked, shin guards not covered. 1 (Poor) - Major deviations. 0 (Unacceptable) - Many major deviations. Note: An ejection of a player or coach shall result in the offending team receiving zero (0) points. Issuance of two cautions to any player or coach shall result in the offending team receiving zero (0) points. No points shall be awarded to any team that abandons a game or does not play all the players the required half game. | |||||||||||||||
